Valet Parking Scratches: What Actually Causes Them and How to Reduce Them

When you hand over your keys at a busy restaurant, hotel or event, the car is usually parked quickly in whatever space is free, sometimes in tight rows to keep the entrance clear for the next arrival. That's a different environment from parking it yourself, and it produces a different, predictable pattern of small damage.

• Unfamiliar hands on an unfamiliar car: the driver hasn't driven your specific car before and doesn't know its exact size, blind spots or turning circle.
• Rushed parking: with cars queuing behind, the priority is clearing the entrance quickly.
• Tight reversing between bollards, two-wheelers and other parked cars.
• Several hands on the keys through the evening as cars are moved to make room.
• Low light: most of this happens after dark, when a fresh scuff is easy to miss until morning.

Once the key is handed over, you don't control how the car is driven or where it's put. You can't inspect it panel by panel at night, and by the time you see a mark in daylight there's no way to know where it came from. That's not a reason to avoid valet. It's simply how it works, and it's the kind of everyday damage that adds up over a year.
